The house of Future

Dharshana Ranatunga Eco Brick Colombo, 22nd of January 2019

The slogan says everything about this company - “respecting the greatest architecture: Nature”. Imagine a wall made out of bricks composed by 90% soil and only 10% cement. Well, do not overthink or over imagine it – looks just like a normal wall, but prettier! Eco-Brick is a company based in Sri Lanka which has been transforming the way people face “projects of a lifetime”. Their bricks are used in the construction of both houses and bungalows.

When this company was founded, three main issues were addressed: firstly, the negative impact clay mining had on the ecosystems; secondly the air and water pollution as a result of brick manufacturing and, most importantly, from the demolishing of buildings made of common bricks – the resulting brick waste lasts for a long time. Too long.

Eco-brick is now targeting young couples who have a sustainable mind set and companies/organisations that want to have a lower impact on the environment. Its price is above the average - maybe in the future, with economies of scale, this paradigm changes; however, the prosperity company is nowadays proving that price is not a determining factor of success. For the ones who want to know more about this company check their website - www.ecoceylon.com . They are now selling in Sri Lanka but Dharshana guaranteed me that this kind of bricks are becoming a global trend and many companies worldwide are selling similar products. Let’s build the house of the future?
